Unending background on Plum Blossoms
Unfortunately, stitching away on never-ending background doesn't make for decent blog content. Fortunately, I am making progress on Plum Blossoms.
(Oh, and thanks go to Susan for the hint on making my Japanese needle cease squeaking. I didn't have any fine sandpaper, but an emery board worked in a pinch. I made sure the needle kept spinning so it didn't get any flat edges. Thanks, Susan!)
In the past week, PB has gone from this:
To this:
While I'm very glad to be making progress on this, I need to break up the monotony a bit. I may pull out one of my other 4 goal pieces to get a little bit of variety in. Anybody want to vote for which one?

My vote is for "My Way" -- it seems to have a variety of stitches and shouldn't be boring.
My second choice would be the blackwork piece, because I love blackwork.
Which ever you choose, I'm sure it will be lovely.
oh wow - what a lot of fine background! (I'm doing background right now too)
I vote for Hannah. I will always vote for Hannah.
All I would say is, try not to leave all the background until last as that really is the way to drive yourself mad!
Glad I could help. As to your current dilemma - the hardanger piece seems closest to completion and now that the carpal tunnel is no longer an issue it should be a pleasure to work on. Finishing an original design is also very satisfactory so I say go for it!
Love the plum blossoms! This is going to absolutely gorgeous.
As for an alternate, I'd say the blackwork piece because it's so different. But who am I to say?
That is a beautiful piece. I'm sure the background is a bit tedious, but it is beautiful.
My Way looks like it would give you variety. Which ever one you choose will help to break the tedium of the background of Plum Blossoms.
