A big happy dance: Winds of Color

Here she is! Winds of Color, designed by Elsa Parrish. This piece was a lot of fun and included many challenges. The last challenge is to decide whether or not to leave the metallic streaks in the hair as they are or to make them thinner. These are done in the old spooled DMC metallic, in which 1 strand is made up of three plies of a thin metallic thread. I used the entire strand, but I need to put it aside for a bit to see if I want to change it to only one ply. Opinions are welcome!

Thanks to all who left birthday wishes and who have encouraged me in the progress of this piece!

Update: I did end up reducing the number of plies of metallic in the hair. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo, since the flash picks up on the metallic, but it looks a lot better in person. Thanks to all who voted for this! And a big thank you for all the lovely comments!

Congratulations on finishing a lovely and challenging piece. You were right to restitch the upper bodice with a darker color and you will be right to remove the tripled metallic strands in the hair to just a single strand. Everything else is so wonderfully shaded. The triple strands stand out too much.

BREAKING NEWS:
“Did you hear that thunder?” was the question on everyone’s lips today, as people around the globe glanced skyward in an effort to see what was causing the noise that echoed from one continent to another.

But no, it was not thunder at all; we can now reveal that it was the sound of wild applause originating from New Zealand. The person responsible, someone who lives in this tiny country at the bottom of the world, has no regrets at causing such world-wide mayhem. “It was Winds of Color” she explained, “it is finished and it is wonderful”.

She went on to tell us that she had been avidly watching progress of this piece as it was stitched by Jeanne (western NY) and today she saw a picture of the finished work. “I could not help myself” she said.

Having looked at the picture ourselves, we must concur with Jocelyn, the NZ stitcher. It is indeed a masterpiece, and our compliments go to the Jeanne, obviously a master stitcher, and to Elsa Parrish who designed the piece.

Wow, what a lovely piece it has turned out to be. You certainly met the challenge of all the intricate stitches and mastered each one. I think the triple strand needs to be single - it seems to stand out a bit too much.
Congratulations on such a fine job. Looking forward to the next major challenge.

Jeanne, This may get posted twice since I did it but it does not appear. I love the finished project and can't wait to see it in person. I agree I think the metalic in her hair should be thinner. It might look different when in hand though.
Beautiful work and now on to yet another project.
