Pocket progress

Thank you to DH for bringing my camera in to the hospital!

Blueberry Pocket is continuing to work up quickly. It's got enough variety to keep it interesting, and I'm enjoying seeing such good progress. Unfortunately, I'm finding that I've run short on one color. Others are possibly going to run out, but I'm trying to be very frugal, so we'll see.

In the wide center band, notice the leaves that aren't filled in and the hexagon shapes in the vine. There wasn't nearly enough thread in the kit to do all of the stitching in these areas. The good news is that DH braved my stash collection and was able to find the same value of silk. The bad news is that the dye lot doesn't really match. You can see the difference between the left-most hexagon and the leaves just above and to the right of it.

I don't even have enough of the original dye lot to finish the three leaves in the center, so I think all of this will have to be frogged. Oh well, it gives me something to do tomorrow when a few of my stitching friends will be visiting!

I'm learning to appreciate small bits of freedom. Yesterday, I took my once-weekly 30-minute wheelchair ride. DH took me down to the lobby, bought a hot chocolate for me, and we sat in the sunshine in a quiet hallway. I was so unused to such bright sunlight that he had to turn the chair away from the windows to keep my eyes from tearing! :-)

On top of that, today the doctors decided I've been stable for long enough, and I'm now allowed to take short walks around the nurse's station in the center of this unit. Small victories are wonderful!

Good for DH with the camera and stash diving. When your friends visit, ask them to search their stashes for you. Assuming they have any, that is. We do occasionally make friends with non-stitchers. (Sad but true. LOL)

You know, samplers often have color variations when the originals run out. You could leave this and not rip out. Just an idea of how to approach authenticity.

Our ancestors probably were too cheap to rip out when a dye lot was no longer available. They might have even had to dye more themselves.

Glad you can walk some.

So glad to hear that you and baby are hanging in thee TOGETHER!

As far as the leaves go, I would stitch them in the silk dh brought. It's not like you are using different dye lots in the same area of the design...these leaves (and the hexagons) are separate from what you have already done. I say"dare to be you" and have a litle fun with the piece. Happy New Year to you and your family, includiny your MIL.

Hi Jeanne,

This is working up beautifully! Thank DH for us for the camera. :-)

I'm also impressed that he went stash diving! My DH would have brought everything to the hospital for me to go through. I wouldn't worry about the dye lots unless it's really bothering you. They look fine in the pictures and will add to the authenticity of the sampler! :-)

By the way, after the birth of our first child, our daughter, he was so excited and tired he took a lot of things home. Including my shoes!!! I was stuck in the hospital without any shoes! They gave me the shoes that they put on surgical patients which were quite stylish! :-)

Congratulations on your and BJ's healthy progress!
